The daily explorations of a twenty something flatlander girl living in Toronto. |
Joel Plaskett doing his thing a couple weekends ago at Queen Elizabeth Theatre. I figured I better go to the show and catch up with him because I am sure we will be hanging out quite a bit when I move to Halifax.
Last week before I entered the AGO we stumbled on Max Dean’s Photo Album project. He has been collecting family photo albums for over the last ten years and giving them new homes. I might have been the most excited person for the project so far, I couldn’t believe they were giving them away for free. The album I chose came as a pair and is from the 1930’s, with photos that seem to be from both Canada and Europe. I’m not sure yet what I will do with the albums but am fascinated by the history and getting a peak into someone else’s past.
For more information on the project check it out on the AGO website or the facebook project to hear what the album recipients have doing with their photos.
First ice-cream of the summer, and it never tasted better.
Last week I went to see Bruce Peninsula play at the Great Hall. It was my fifth time seeing them live, since living in Toronto less than a year, I guess you could say that I like them. Their shows are something to be experienced, you lose yourself in the music, and the night is a blur of hand clapping, foot stomping and singing as loud as you can.
This is a great version of their song Leaves done in Newfoundland, a place I am dying to visit and hopefully will happen when I am out east.
My life in food last week.
1. Pizza Libretto with the lovely Erica.
2. I make payments in dinner. Bike tune up earns a mushroom gallette.
3. Sushi with Alvin, Stefan, Ed and Jenny.
4. My new favourite task at Hey Meatball. I was avoiding it for so long and finally had to grind pork side this week and found out I really enjoy it.
5. Strawberry Rhubard soda, I’m glad I only work two days a week at Hey Meatball because I wouldn’t be able to stop myself.
6. Roasted Asparagus Egg Pizza.
My life as of late. The usual suspects, good food, storytelling, friends and music. 1. My first produce purchase at the Trinity Bellwoods farmer’s market. 2. Five minute dinner. Sushi from work, lemon sautéed asparagus with Ontario pecorino cheese and one orange. 3. The Raconteurs, storytelling series at No One Writes to the Kernel with the theme of Celebrations. 4. My favourite radio man, Ira Glass, on the big screen at the live show of This American Life with Erica and Benson. 5. Taco time at Snack Bar. Yum yum, crab taco. 6. Coffee with the cousin, Dustin, last week. My barista made me the cutest latte. 7. Hey Ocean! One of my favourite Vancouver bands that makes me pine for Oak streets and Cedars… . Jenny and I made new dances up and sang until we had no voices. 8. Birthday cupcakes for my friend Stefan’s 27th birthday.
I bought myself a much needed new knife last week. I had been using the same knives that I’ve had since school, which are too big for me to work comfortably and effeciently. It is a whole world better, and it is also nice to go into work and have everyone admire my beautiful knife.
This wonderful lady helped me with my purchase. She is awesome!
I participated in The Drake’s Spring Market this weekend, it was the first time selling my prints in public. I set a low goal of selling one print and surpassed it by selling six which was a nice surprise. It was a great day spent outside hanging out on the patio with friends dropping by to say hello. Thanks to my friend Jenny for coming early with me to set up and for her advice!
Maylee Todd killed it on Saturday night as the second opening act for Lee Fields. I can’t wait for her new album to be released this year, I am digging this throw back style.

Just received my sled island pass. So stoked for so many bands!
I’m a little teapot.
I’m starting to get the hang of weekend mornings. After a nice breakfast we linger at the table and look at the newspaper. When Mom turns on the...
